TikTok is Divided: What You Need to Know About Morpheus8

If Kimmy K gets a treatment done, it’s not long before it’s going to be EVERYWHERE. Thats exactly what happened with Morpheus8. So why isn’t everyone convinced it’s worth the hype? & with a name that gives nothing away (since it sounds more like a name for a kids toy spaceship), what is it even supposed to do, we hear you ask? If you’ve been considering booking an appointment to target your skin concerns, this post is for you. We’ll guide you through everything you need to know about the Morpheus8 treatment – from how it works to expected morpheus8 before and after results. We’ll even cover our favourite places to get it done in London too. & Let’s not forget, the morpheus8 price in the UK (spoiler: it’s an investment).

What is Morpheus8 Treatment?

Put simply, it’s micro-needling tag teamed with radiofrequency energy. First, lets start with the micro-needling, since most of us have probably heard of it before. As the name suggests (for once), micro-needling is when teeny tiny pinpoint needles are used to create small wounds in the top layer of your skin. As part of your skins healing response, it comes to the rescue by producing new collagen and elastin. Once healed, your skin should look & feel more rejuvenated, and any acne scars reduced.

Okay, so we get micro-needling, now for the radio frequency. Better known on TikTok as a “non-surgical face lift”, radio frequency facials work by using a device that applies energy waves to the skin causing it to heat up. It specifically targets your dermis – the layer of skin underneath the very outer layer of your skin. By applying this radio frequency energy deep into the skin, it’s said to help it produce more collagen whilst also tightening elastin fibres. In turn, skin becomes tighter, firmer, and more contoured (yes please!).

So, knowing what you now know, it’s probably making more sense as to why the two procedures have been combined to create Morpheus8. And not only that, why it’s such a powerful treatment for collagen stimulation & improving overall skin quality. Worth noting though, that when you have a specific Morpheus8 facial, your aesthetician should be using the Morpheus8 device – if they’re not, you’re being overcharged (& you likely won’t get the results you hoped for).

Benefits of Morpheus8

If you’re looking for age-defying results without having a full face lift or dermal fillers, then Morpheus8 is a treatment to consider. Fillers & going under the knife are not decisions to be made lightly – and let’s not forget, they often come with a hefty price tag too. Now, we’re not saying Morpheus8 should be booked on a whim either. It’s not your usual relaxing facial (as we’ll explain!), but, it’s much less intense than surgery.

Morpheus8 takes a more holistic approach to skin improvements, by targeting different layers of the skin to encourage it to naturally improve skin texture and overall youthfulness. This non-surgical treatment achieves remarkable results for your face and body while minimising the risks associated with surgical procedures.

It’s main benefits include:

  • The production of new collagen (hello glow!)
  • Improved skin tone and texture
  • Noticeable skin tightening
  • Can help reduce stretch marks and acne scars
  • Minimal side effects (but it goes without saying, please speak to your aesthetician about these)
  • Little downtime: unlike most surgical operations, Morpheus8 requires minimal downtime post-treatment. Granted, you’ll be a little red, but you can get back into your busy routine quickly
  • Long-lasting results
  • Personalised targeted treatment: whether your focus is your eye area or your lower face, Morpheus8 can be focused around various body areas.

How Many Treatments Do I Need to See Results?

Some people notice visible improvements in skin texture and tone after the very first session. However, collagen building is a gradual process, meaning it may take the full course of treatments to achieve the complete rejuvenating and contouring benefits. Most patients will require 2-3 Morpheus8 treatment sessions spaced 4-5 weeks apart to achieve the best results. This allows enough time between sessions for new collagen formation to take place. Our advice? Wait until you’ve had your first one done and see if you notice any initial benefits before booking in for your course. Granted, you might miss out on an offer for purchasing the course upfront, but considering that it’s not for everyone, we don’t recommend committing to a course before you’ve seen how your skin reacts to it.

The number of treatments your doctor recommends will depend on your skin type, the targeted area, the severity of laxity (e.g. loss of elasticity) or wrinkles. For example, individuals using Morpheus8 for simple maintenance or targeting a small isolated area like the submentum may see great results with just 1 or 2 sessions from their initial consultation. On the other hand, deep wrinkles or significantly loose skin typically require the full 3 sessions to see results.

We’re all impatient when it comes to seeing the benefit from a new product or treatment in our regime, so here’s a general breakdown of the result time frame you can expect:

  • Early Changes: Within two to four weeks post-treatment, you may observe some subtle improvement in your skin texture. This is because collagen and elastin production has begun to increase.
  • Noticeable Improvement: By the third to fourth week, expect your skin to become healthier, firmer, and even-toned. Furthermore, people with fine lines and wrinkles will also notice a significant improvement at this stage. Acne scarring will start to appear reduced.
  • Transformation: Ideally, the full potential of Morpheus8 unfolds after three months. By this time, the full effects of collagen would have taken place.

Keep in mind that this time frame differs for each person and your individual needs prior to treatment.

How Long Do Morpheus8 Results Last?

We get it – you want a facial that leaves you not only looking snatched when you leave the clinic, but at least, for the next few months. The good news: usually, the results of Morpheus8 treatment can last anywhere from one to three years. The bad news: like most non-invasive procedures, several factors affect its duration, including your skin’s natural characteristics. Overall, if your skin is elastic and healthy (& you generally take good care of it, which you probably do if you’re considering Morpheus8!), you’ll notice improvements after one month and see final results peak at around six months.

Age also plays a role. As we get older, our collagen production takes a hit, so younger patients often get to relish in their Morpheus8 glow for longer stretches. On the other hand, too much time under the sun, harsh weather, and pollutants can try to rain on your parade, but you already know that.

What To Expect During the Treatment?

If you’re looking for a relaxing day at the spa, this is not the treatment for you. You’ll have numbing cream applied to the treatment area around 30 minutes before it starts. Some clinics also recommend you take some painkillers before you arrive too. And that probably gives you an idea of what you’re in for. But, if you’ve ever had dermal filler or other aesthetic procedures, you’ll know that a good numbing cream can work wonders.

Recovery Time

So practitioners will tell you that theres no need to take any time off from your regular routine or work, but from experience, we wouldn’t recommend having it close to any occasions. You’ll most likely notice some redness, which will look a bit like a mild sunburn for about a day or two. It’s easy enough to cover up, but we’d recommend going without makeup for a few days if you can, to give your skin the best chance of healing without blocking any pores or causing any new skin issues. You’ll also probably be a little swollen in the treated area too.

To speed up healing, make sure to avoid direct sun exposure post-treatment and stay clear of any retinol or resurfacing skincare products for at least a week. Instead, strip back your routine and prioritise a good SPF (we love the Neostrata Sheer Hydration SPF 40) and a hydrating recovery moisturiser (like the Medik8 Ultimate Recovery Cream) to give your skin the post-treatment R&R it needs.

Whats the TikTok Drama About Morpheus8?

Here’s the TikTok tea – basically, not everyone is happy with their results, yet theres others that say it’s the best thing they’ve done for their skin. Why? We did some digging & we think theres a few reasons for the divide.

First up – there’s plenty of knock off Morpheus8 devices available nowadays that look exactly like the real device, but for a fraction of the price. When an aesthetician buys the legit device for their clinic, they have to go through training before they can use it on patients. If they buy a knock off, that’s not the case. Plus, who knows whether the device is set up correctly, at the temperature it should be, needling the skin at the right depth & pressure. This could explain why some Tiktoker’s have been left with scarring that hasn’t faded post-treatment, potentially as they’ve ended up with some thermal damage.

Then theres the age old case of it’s simply not for everyone. We noticed a common theme in a lot of the negative reviews about Morpheus8 – those who experienced purging (aka breakouts coming to the surface) after they had after the treatment often said that they did suffer with their skin prior to the treatment. The women that raved about the treatment did seem to have pretty clear skin even beforehand, and were getting it done for the anti-aging benefits only. With that, we’d suggest you steer clear if you are break-out prone (& from micro-needling on it’s own, to be honest), since theres a chance it’s not going to be much fun in the following months if it doesn’t agree with your skin. Plus if you end up breaking out after, you’ll have new scarring & that defeats the purpose of getting the treatment in the first place.

Lastly, some say it’s simply too painful to endure, but then theres plenty who say it’s nothing unbearable for the results you get. We think a lot goes down to the pre-treatment numbing procedure e.g. allowing enough time, using a good numbing cream etc. Plus, everyone’s pain threshold is different.

The DR Verdict

What sets it apart is that you can enjoy all these benefits without going under the knife and facing the associated excruciating risks. Granted, it’s not for everyone and not everyone on TikTok thinks it’s worth the pain. But depending on your skin type and goals, it could be an investment that leaves you looking more youthful for longer. Our top tips? Make sure to go with a reputable clinic and have a consultation prior to booking to find out whether it will be suitable for your skin type, as well as what to do pre and post treatment, should you go ahead.
