Think of a Japanese headspa as the new gold standard of self-care, but for your hair. A little like how the Korean glass skin facial went viral and seriously levelled things up for our skin. J-beauty is on the rise, and we’re putting our bets on this treatment being one of the biggest wellness trends of the next year.

Naturally, we had to do a bit of “research” and test out the best Japanese headspa treatments in London to find the best of the best. Spoiler alert: there aren’t that many, but the ones we found make up for it. Let’s dive in!

What is a Japanese Headspa? London’s Luxury Treatment Uncovered

So if you’re curious about what it is, it’s (quite literally) a spa treatment for your head. Don’t worry, a Japanese headspa isn’t just a fancy overpriced scalp massage. It’s a wellness ritual rooted in Japanese beauty traditions, designed to help you relax, improve scalp health, and enhance your hair quality.

In Japan, headspas are as common as our beloved facials, and they’re known for their meticulous attention to detail. Imagine a multi-step process involving cleansing, exfoliating, massaging, and treating the scalp with specialised products.

Japanese headspas aren’t exactly new – they’ve been around for ages, decades even. But, of course, TikTok and Instagram have made them ultra-popular more recently. Virtually anyone can enjoy a trip to the head spa, but there are some of us who might find it particularly beneficial:

  • If you’re experiencing stress right now
  • If you’re focused on improving your hair growth & strength
  • You’re looking to dip your toes (or roots) into a new holistic scalp and hair care ritual
  • Your simply entirely intrigued by the idea of a Japanese headspa experience, or
  • All of the above (same girl, keep reading!)

Why Should You Consider a Japanese Headspa?

  • Improved Hair and Scalp Health: Regular massage helps improve your blood circulation, leaving your scalp feeling refreshed & balanced. Plus, regular treatments at your local Headspa are guaranteed to leave you with healthier, shinier hair (we’d put our life savings on the fact you’ll want to ask them about the products they use so you can use them at home too after you’ve felt your hair!).
  • Better Mental Clarity and Focus: The combination of the deep scalp massage and aromatherapy works wonders at clearing your mind and giving your mood a healthy boost.
  • Detoxification and Rejuvenation: The scalp treatments you’ll experience during your appointment detoxify and rejuvenate your skin, cleansing your scalp. Leaving you feeling ultra-clean and with a spring in your step.

What to Expect During a Japanese Headspa Treatment

Curious about what happens during a Japanese Headspa? Here’s a step-by-step of how a typical treatment goes:

  1. Consultation and Scalp Analysis: Your treatment will typically begin with a personalised consultation to understand your unique scalp and hair needs.
  2. Application of Specialised J-Beauty Products: The treatment involves a curated assortment of luxurious shampoos, oils, and treatments tailored to your scalp’s condition & hair needs.
  3. Scalp Massage Techniques: Expect a deep, invigorating head massage (our favourite part) that extends to your neck and shoulders. Heaven.
  4. Relaxation Period and Final Touches: The session ends with a relaxation period to allow the products to deeply penetrate the scalp, followed by a final rinse and styling. Try to stay off your phone and practice gratitude or meditate during this period.

Most sessions last between 60 to 90 minutes, and the prices can vary depending on the spa and the specific treatments you choose.

Hayato

Dubbed the “number 1 Japanese headspa in London” & for good reason, Hayato’s Japanese headspa treatment is well-priced but equally luxurious as the rest. You get a soothing scalp massage before a full deep scalp cleanse. Our favourite part? You even get to choose from 9 different types of serums and shampoos courtesy of brand Davines. The Hayato team also uses a spa mist diffuser, which disperses fine water molecules deep into the hair and pores. We could have stayed there all day.
